Bay Area, California emcee J.Lately presents his new single “By My Lonely” featuring Locksmith, a fellow Bay Area emcee who has collaborated with 9th Wonder, Ski Beatz, and recently released No Question, his collaboration project with Apollo Brown. Produced by Chase Moore, who has collaborated with Slug of Atmosphere, Royce Da 5’9 and Smoke DZA, “By My Lonely” comes on the heels of J.Lately’s music video for “Papayas & Blunt Smoke” (watch), a track from his album Be Fucking Happy (stream on Soundcloud), which features guest appearances from Demrick, Khyenci Tienne, Rexx Life Raj, Beejus and KBong as well as production from Mikos Da Gawd, Chase Moore and Kris Rewlz. Hailing from Sebastopol, and having split time between Oakland and Southern California, Lately has toured with Zion I, Locksmith, and A-Plus of the Hieroglyphics, and his previous releases include “Save Yourself” featuring Blu (Soundcloud) and visuals for “I’ll Be Living” (Youtube) and “Breathe” (Youtube). “”This song to me is about capturing that feeling of isolation and independence that I think has been more and more present in our society,” J. says. “It’s weird to me because the more we all become ‘connected’ through social media and the internet, ironically I think it almost makes us all feel a little more isolated and on our own at times. There’s also this weird paradox of being an artist where at moments you feel so connected with people, like when you’re performing in front of a packed room, but then within an hour you might be back all alone by yourself working on your craft in private, lost in your own head. For me this song is about navigating through this process, and embracing and almost celebrating the solitude we all have to experience in order to really put in the work it takes to achieve our dreams. I thought Locksmith was the perfect emcee for me to add on this track because he’s someone that’s pushed so tough on his own over the years and I think he’s an example of someone who embodies that independent spirit that we all carry inside of us.”
