Northern California producer Marxx presents “Equinimity”, his collaboration with Los Angeles emcee Myka 9 of Freestyle Fellowship. Hailing from the city of Windsor, Marxx produces and raps, recently dropping the “Long Distance” single produced by Kellz Mills (Youtube), but he focuses on production duties for “Equinimity”. As part of Freestyle Fellowship, Myka redefined the Los Angeles underground in the 1990s alongside groupmates Aceyalone, P.E.A.C.E. and Self Jupiter, and has collaborated with Saafir, R.B.X., Abstract Rude, Busdriver, Prefuse 73, Factor and many more. His solo albums include Citrus Sessions Vol. 1, It’s All Love and Famous Future Time Travel_, his collaboration with Canadian producer Factor (Bandcamp). “I just had got done making a beat and I got a phone call from my manager who had contacted Myka 9 about collaborating. The beat I was making when he called just so happened to be the beat for ‘Equinimity’. My manager sent off the beat to him and he recorded to it. Plain and simple.” Of the beat, Myka says “it vibed me like ‘Cherish’ from Sade, yet I re-transcribed her parts with embellishments in between to express a rapid-fire delivery of related experience, cohesion and diametrically opposite challenges to equinimity.”
