“Baby You” is a new track by Dion featuring rapper JChris. In the interest of full disclosure, it should be noted that the chorus of the song is “Baby you got more ass like nobody do”. It should also be noted that I’ve been singing along with that chorus the entire time I’ve been writing. The song is somehow sentimental, playful, and poppy at the same time. And I can’t stop singing it.
Maybe it’s the high pitch inflection on that third “Baaaby Yooooou!” of the hook. Maybe, it’s the near-whispered intonation of the chorus near the end. Either way, Dion is singular in his focus here and the track serves to please the listener through that lens. The song explores the experience of knowing a woman who isn’t just a physical beauty symbol but is often treated that way. Dion describes the woman of his affections as a person with class, educated and full of personality. But despite these traits, Dion laments in the lyrics, “What many men want is [her] booty”.
What the listener is presented with as a result is an ode of sorts to the booty in question as well as the woman attached to it. It’s rich. The singing is strong. The message is fun and easy to listen to. And best of all, a catchphrase that, much like “Birthday Sex” could easily become a colloquialism, was born. Furthermore JChris’s contributions to the song were edgy and poignant enough to draw listeners in. I’d love to look through their respective catalogues to see just where this song came from in the evolution of both efforts
