After a decade in Washington, D.C., a 17-year-old girl is forced to return home to her rock-star, politico father in Togo, West Africa, where danger and love await.
SYNOPSIS:
“Jolie” is a coming of age drama about a 17-year-old girl who loses her mother at the age of 7 and is in jeopardy of losing her own life because of her father’s career. A targeted musician-activist, Jolie’s father ITADI has been estranged from his daughter for 10 years, since the murder of her mother and his exile from Togo, West Africa. While Jolie grows up in Washington, D.C., Itadi lives in Paris, France. However, when Itadi returns to Togo, Jolie, against her will, is sent to live with him. Returning to Togo with Itadi is RAH, a doctor who Itadi raised like a son in Paris. He steps in to try to bridge the distance between father and daughter and in the process, falls in love with Jolie. It is through Rah’s eyes and her childhood best friend AZZA, 18, the rich, rebellious daughter of the man still targeting Itadi, that Jolie rediscovers Togo. But that rediscovery is still under the threat of violence. Two questions overshadow Jolie falling in love for the first time with Rah and reconnecting with her best friend Azza: Will she and Itadi survive another attempt on his life? And, after returning to Togo, will Jolie finally understand what her father’s fighting for with his music? Fused with hard-hitting music and the passionate defiance of a teenager, “Jolie” is about a young girl in transition, a girl who has to understand why her choices, like her father’s choices, have big ramifications on her future.
